Travel the World is a module study of the continents and the oceans, along with map skills. Various printables and online links help to increase understanding and retention. Lapbook resources are also included.

In-Depth Look:

I had no experience with the TOS Planner Modules. So, I didn't know what to expect. I looked it over a few days ago. It is such a neat idea. This module is called Travel the World and is a unit study of the continents and oceans.

TTW (Travel the World) begins with a brief definition of geography, some map skills and a short intro to the oceans.

Then it takes the student on a grand tour of the seven continents. Each section gives a little information about a continent. Within the sections are click-able links to definitions, more details, and online games.

For example, Australia has links to greater studies of Australia, Oceania, the Pacific Islands, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Outback. It also links up to an online game for memorizing the Australian Regions.

TTW includes some printable activities such as a Word Find, Word Scramble and Crossword Puzzle. I liked the very nice maps to label and color. The beginnings of a lapbook and also links to more ideas are listed. Copywork in both print and cursive are included.

An extra study is available for the high school level, with an introduction into mathematical, physical and political geography. A high school level word search and some recipes can be printed out.

Lots of online and TOS resources are included at the end, as well as the answer keys.

I was impressed with this unit study. How neat to have so many click-able links right in the text. Just read the lessons and click on any of the additional resources...definitions, in-depth articles, games, more e-books. Then print out the hands-on activities...Fill-in-the-Blanks, Rebus Puzzles, an Acrostic Poem. Later, decide if you would like to learn more and then check out all the additional resources listed at the end.

Below is an example of one of the copywork sheets.

Based on our experience and my impression of the module, I think the unit study would work nicely as a read-aloud for 3rd-5th grade. 6th grade and up should be able to work on it independently, delving deeper into all of the included links.
